I began in construction at the age of 15 when we built our family home and was trained by general contractors in all phases of designing and building. I was hired at 17 as foreman of a four man building crew in California and was later hired as foreman of a 8 man crew to build homes for a top builder in Mesa, Arizona. In the ensuing years, I designed and built more than 20 homes before going into business for myself in 1982 where my father and I formed Mitchell Dean Homes, Inc. (My full name is Mitchell Dean McCuistion but McCuistion is much too long to put on the door of my truck!) After building a 16 unit condominium development called Colony Square my Father moved to Arizona in 1986 and I became partners with a very dear friend and in June of 1987 and we formed Panda Bear Homes, Inc. Panda Bear Homes was the largest single family builder from 1988 to 1992 building over 125 homes a year. In 1996 I formed Nuhome Custom Design to design and build custom homes which I continue to do ranging from $350,000 to over $6.5 million! In 1998 I formed Diamond Peak Management and Construction for multi-family and commercial projects and in 2004 was co-owner of Diamond Peak Homes and Management in Southern California giving me over 2000 homes of experience! I also have enjoyed specialty projects such as building a sound studio for Solarium Studios, June Audio, Stone 5 productions, and Aaron Merrill. Or remodeling the Chuck E Cheese in Orem…that was fun!
I have gone back to my roots and my love of residential building which allows me to bring my 33 years of experience and create a very endearing building company for all who want to have an enjoyable experience with a Builder who is trustworthy, who is creative enough to bring your dreams from your head to a home, and will deliver every product “on time and on budget”.
I am also very active in the Home Builders Association serving on the local board of directors. I have also served as a State Board of Director, as President of the Local Association, and was voted Builder Of The Year in 2000. I also received the Presidents Service Award for my creation of the Cougar House program with Brigham Young University and was given the “Volunteer of the Year” award by the National Association of Athletic Development Directors (NAADD).
